Safe to drive without a horn?

Seriously though, as long as it is high-passed, is it ok to test HF compression drivers in the near field without any horn attached? Specifically a 908-8B

Yes, at very low power. If you use over about 1/4 watt you had better cross it over about 7K, which would be about the horn loading of the exit. It will be very beamy. Jim
